In March, the first Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) conference to take place in our region was held in Melbourne – and BlueChip was there. Taglined “Innovate. Integrate. Collaborate”, the event saw 300+ leading local, regional and international sustainability professionals gather to share insights into the current state of play and next steps in building sustainable organisations.
An eclectic rollout of attendees saw an at times unlikely mix of delegates from NGOs, green and sustainability groups and the ASX Top 100 – notably miners and bankers – working together.
The sheer number and quality of attendees is testimony to the growing understanding among businesses, government and other organisations of the importance of addressing sustainability issues in strategy, planning and everyday operations. And that includes communications. Why? Because sustainability is all about building businesses that will continue to flourish and grow for the long term – despite growing challenges and the gathering pace of change.
