The atmosphere was buzzing as 900 donors awaited the appearance of former Australian PMs – the Hon John Howard OM AC and the Hon Bob Hawke AC – on stage at a special Lifelinefundraising lunch. An event interspersed with laughter, jest and serious conversation, BlueChip team members were among the guests listening to Ray Martin grilling the political rivals on the Middle East, the political leadership in Australia, the economy and marriage equality (Hawke supports it).
John Brogden, Lifeline Chairman and CEO of the Financial Services Council, hosted the lunch and shared the disturbing and perhaps little-known fact that more Australians lose their lives to suicide every year than to road accidents. The fundraising lunch aimed to raise $200,000 for Lifeline’s work. In support of Lifeline’s fundraising goals, Mr Hawke and Mr Howard auctioned a game of golf. The winning bidder was Paul Ramsey who generously donated $25,000 for the game.
