Hi Friend,
Print is dead, cried Roger Fidler, the godfather of digital journalism, in the 1980’s. Three decades later and new media has truly taken over.
Last week we saw ScoMo delivering #Budget2017
IMO the most interesting aspect was media coverage around the budget, particularly the dominance of new media coverage.
We can now clearly see the traditional media receding (e.g. journos being sacked #fairgofairfax) and a tide of new media (aka 'shareable content') rising. What is being talked about by the people ranks. Period.
There are plenty of a silver linings. For example if you have a clear and personal story then it will resonate and covered in any form of media. One of our greatest client success stories covering the budget was thanks to taking this approach.
Maybe we should have listened when Roger proposed the ‘tablet newspaper’ back in 1994!
Best,
Carden
